I have a sock sampler of yarn from The Unique Sheep ordered. This will just be a small amount so we can see what the yarn is, but it’s pretty exciting. The Gradiance yarns look so enticing. They told me they dye to order but were looking to see what they had on hand so they could get it on it’s way to us as soon as they receive the check (which is on it’s way straight from the bank!)
The other exciting thing is the new special issue from Interweave called “Knitting Traditions”. I can barely put it down, it has 43 timeless projects and they are wonderful. Have you ever heard of Anna Makarovna in War and Peace? She knit two socks at once, one inside the other on the same needles. I have always been fascinated by that and thrilled to see the technique. The magazine is full of history.

The Yarn Corner will be closed on Friday and Saturday of this week for President’s weekend for a family time.

It is so exciting to announce that we have some classes in the works!
The first one coming up is a sock class designed to teach a new toe-up method. It is called the Houdini sock and it’s a great new concept that gives a good fit. The class will be Feb. 20 at 9 a.m.
We are going to make a tiny sock in class to teach all parts of the sock but will make available some handouts to show how to make a full-size version.
Yarn will be included in the class fee as we will just need a small amount. A gauge swatch completed prior to class will be required. We will teach a cast-on method during class and will provide needles to practice on as we will use heavier yarn and bigger needles for that part.
Space is limited so contact us soon if you want to take part.
We have other class ideas, also and will let you know when those are ready to happen. We’re always open to ideas for classes you’d like to see, too.
There are other exciting things in the works so watch for announcements!
I think I have resolved the spam problem so should be back up and running now. However, I am not going to turn the comments back on until I am sure, so please email any comments for the time being.

This Saturday, September 19, is the Art Walk here in Aberdeen. We would love it if you came in with your knitting, spinning, crocheting or whatever you love doing with yarn. Stay a few hours or stay all day, we’d love to have you.
Also, if you’re on facebook, join our group. We’d love to see pictures of your projects!

When I logged in to write a new post, I saw that my previous post never published so I am very sorry for the long silence here.
I just returned from vacation and hopefully now that I have had some time to refresh, I will be better at keeping up with this.
While I was gone, the Marble and Marble Chunky flew off the shelves and I have barely any left. I called the company today and they said they are selling it so fast they cannot keep up with it. However, they said if I could give them an order today, they would slip it into the container headed for the states today. So, we’ll see how much of the yarn was still in stock! They are a great company to work with.
Because Wiitamaki’s is closed this Saturday, Sept. 5 for the Labor Day weekend, so is The Yarn Corner.
Drop in and say hi when you can!

I’ve been filling in crochet hook sizes. A few of us have been playing with Amigurumi crochet toys, very fun! Yesterday I also received a big order of Sugar and Cream cotton as well as Creme de la Creme cotton. I was disappointed that the blocking set I ordered was put on backorder, but hopefully that will be in soon!
The Marble and Marble Chunky yarns have been going out the door pretty fast. The Boheme little sweater has been a big hit.

This yarn is machine washable. My rep had a sweater that had been worn for over a year and washed many times, it looked as good as new!
I am going to be gone this coming Saturday attending a trade show and taking a class from Cat Bordhi! We’ll be learning a totally new concept (again!) on making socks and she promises no math is involved! Unfortunately, we cannot share what she shows us until her book comes out in the fall.
Next week, I will be gone getting ready for my son’s wedding. If you happen to need something, drop in and they can help you but there will be no knitting help on the premises! I am almost always available by phone, however, so they will call me if needed. Please let me know if you need me to drop in for help on Wednesday or Thursday. I’m sure Friday I will be crazily getting the dinner and decorating ready and Saturday the whole store is closed for the wedding!

Before the war, two of my great-aunts owned a small yarn store here in Aberdeen. Today my cousin emailed me a picture of it. When the war started, they closed their shop and moved to Tacoma and became Rosie Riveters. After that, they moved to California so I never really got a chance to get to know them. The third person (far right) in the picture is Aunt Elaine, my grandfather’s sister. I grew up a block from her house and spent many happy hours there with my cousins.

I am not sure if any of my other cousins are knitters, but it’s been fun for me to know that this is in my heritage.

World-wide Knit in Public Day was a success again this year. I somehow did not get a picture of the big table full of people, but I did manage to get a picture of a knitter in the making!

She knit her first row at WWKIP! She is a very delightful young lady and we love her mama, too!

When the sun came out, some of the ladies went outside and had fun talking to passers by.
Here is a little bit of my knitting that will likely end up in the frog pond.

We also got started on our charity blanket….we’re all very excited about it!

This will be a child-size blanket and it has a beach theme.

Each knitter will do 4 squares on one continued strip.
If you are interested in taking part, please contact us, we have a few left!
